“And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” (Matthew 10:28)
Jesus is very clear that hell is real. Unless you are willing to acknowledge the existence of hell you will do very little to avoid it. We know many people do not wish to believe what Jesus taught about hell being real, but, that does not change the truth he taught. For all who believe and obey Jesus, the reality of hell (and heaven) compels us to reverence God, shun sin and live “soberly, righteously and godly in the present age” (Titus 2:12). While we long for heaven’s joy and peace we also dread hell’s torment and anguish (Rom. 2:7-11). Fear God and keep his commandments to prepare for heaven and avoid hell (Eccl. 12:13).
