For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. (Colossians 3:3, NKJV)
Our reason for fixating our minds on spiritual, eternal things (“things above,” Col. 3:2) is stated here. When we were “buried with Him in baptism” the “body of the sins of the flesh” was cut off (Col. 2:11-12). We died to sin and its worldly corruption (Col. 2:20). Now, we no longer live in sin (Rom. 6:2, 4, 6-7). We commit ourselves to a life of sustained faithfulness, because our whole outlook on life changed when we died to sin. A life that is hidden with Christ in God is one that is faithful and true to God every day. Christians thank God for our new life; He has freed us from sin and death. Now we live with Christ, and Christ lives in us (Gal. 2:20).
